Where the solar dynasty's greatest son was born — where dharma descended to walk the earth as a man. The consecrated Ram Lalla temple on the banks of the Sarayu now stands in eternal splendour, fulfilling the dream of a billion hearts. Ayodhya awaits.
Ayodhya — the City of God — is the eternal birthplace of Lord Shri Ram, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu and the Maryada Purushottam, the embodiment of virtue. The Shree Ram Janmabhoomi temple stands upon the very spot where Treta Yuga's greatest hero was born to King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya — where a child of divine light took human form to restore dharma to the earth.
On 22nd January 2024, in a moment that fulfilled the faith of a billion devotees across centuries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the Prana Pratishtha (consecration) ceremony — installing the divine form of Ram Lalla in the newly built Nagara-style temple. The magnificent temple, built in pink Rajasthani sandstone in the traditional Vishwakarma Nagara architectural style, rises 161 feet and rests upon a raised platform across 70 sacred acres.
Built without steel, in the Nagara tradition of ancient Hindu temple architecture — a living scripture in pink sandstone.
The temple rises in the Nagara (North Indian) architectural style — a curvilinear tower called shikhara soaring to 161 feet. Five mandapas — Nritya (dance), Rang (performance), Sabha (assembly), Prarthan (prayer), and Kirtan (devotion) — lead from the entrance to the sanctum.
The entire temple is built from pink sandstone quarried from Bansi Paharpur in Rajasthan — the same stone chosen for its durability, warmth, and sacred tradition. Crucially, the temple is built without any steel reinforcement — a traditional shashtra-prescribed construction that ensures its sanctity.
The presiding deity is Ram Lalla — Lord Rama as a five-year-old divine child, radiant and serene, holding a bow in his right hand. The murti was sculpted from Krishna Shila (black stone) and consecrated in the Prana Pratishtha ceremony of January 2024 — watched live by hundreds of millions.
A sacred circumambulation (pradakshina) path encircles the main temple. The 70-acre complex also includes temples to all the deities of the Ramayana — Sita Mata, Lakshman, Bharat, Shatrughna, Hanuman, and the Navgrah — forming a complete cosmological sacred map.
Seven sacred ponds — representing the waters of seven holy rivers — have been consecrated within the temple complex. Pilgrims bathe at the Sarayu River Ghat and at the Saptasagara Kund before entering for darshan, following the ancient tradition of ritual purification.
An engineering marvel of devotion: on Ram Navami (Lord Ram's birthday), at noon, a specially designed optical system reflects sunlight through the shikhara to place a beam of sunlight precisely upon the forehead of Ram Lalla — the divine Surya Tilak (sun's tilak) blessing the Lord on his birthday.
Ayodhya heads the list of the seven Sapta Puri — the seven most sacred cities of India that grant moksha (liberation) to all who die within their precincts. The others are Mathura, Haridwar (Maya), Kashi, Kanchipuram, Ujjain, and Dwarka.
Lord Rama — the seventh avatar of Vishnu — is the ideal of dharmic life: the perfect son, husband, king, and warrior. Born at this very spot on Chaitra Shukla Navami, his birth marked the descent of divine consciousness into human form to uphold righteousness.
The Sarayu river flowing through Ayodhya is described in the Ramayana as the most sacred river of the Ikshvaku dynasty. Lord Rama himself took his final departure (watersamadhi) into the Sarayu. Bathing here before darshan is believed to wash away the karma of seven lifetimes.
The consecration of Ram Lalla on 22 January 2024 was one of the most watched and celebrated events in Indian history — hundreds of millions watched live as the deity was installed after centuries of devotees' prayers. The moment fulfilled a centuries-old longing of the Hindu civilization.
The Valmiki Ramayana describes Ayodhya in detail — its towers, gardens, palaces, and the Sarayu's banks. Every street and ghat of the city was walked by Rama, Sita, and Lakshman. The entire city is a living scripture, where Ramayana-era geography and present-day devotion are inseparable.
The birthday of Lord Rama — Ram Navami — is the grandest celebration at Ayodhya. The Surya Tilak ceremony, lakhs of pilgrims, the Sarayu aarti, and 24-hour kirtans transform Ayodhya into a city of golden light. The entire month of Chaitra is festive in Ayodhya.
The 14 km Panch Kosi Parikrama circuit encircles the entire sacred city — a pilgrimage of Ayodhya's holiest shrines, walked by millions each year.
Offer your love and devotion to Ram Lalla at his very birthplace — sacred sevas performed by our priests at Ayodhya Dham in the Vaishnava tradition of the Raghu dynasty.
